Nell and Natasha Support Kenya

Over the past four years, Natasha & I have personally been sending monthly donations (money grams) to the All Saints Parish care of its Pastor Mary Onginjo.  We’ve had a personal connection with Pastor Mary since a friend travelled to Kenya 4 ½ years ago.  In this small village, this remarkable woman has established a school, a farm, health care and took under her wing more than 112 children living with AIDS or orphaned by the disease.  Through her emails, Natasha and I have learned of how the donations we’ve sent have helped provide for the children’s basic needs. We have supported Reverend Mary in building classrooms, providing food, clean water and medical care. Through her frequent updates, these children have become extremely dear to us.  We invite you to learn more about All Saints Parish, read emails from Pastor Mary and see photos of the children we are helping.

Some details about All Saints Parish (located in the diocese of Maseno South in Western Keyna)

  • Rev Mary Njeri Onginjo and her husband started a pre-school on church property about 7 years ago soon after they were posted.  They started with 75 children, ages 3 – 7, the majority left orphans by HIV and some living as heads of households.
  • Widows from the community were hired as teachers, cooks -- a neighbouring college provides part-time education to teachers
  • Children are provided with 2 meals per day
  • Most food is grown on church property and consumed by children and the needy
  • It is a congregation of 1000, all encouraged to plant small gardens and asked to donate produce, which helps to feed the needy/school children.
  • The community purchased a cow which supplies milk for the school.  They now have several cows, goats, chickens that produce milk and meat for the community
  • Teachers salaries paid by paying parents and via church donation
  • Orphaned youth school fees paid by church donations
  • They are aggressive about nurturing women leaders, workshops and training for women leaders, education on HIV
  • A local health clinic provides free health care, HIV testing in 20 minutes, and is supported by the church

The ministry of All Saints needs support from Canadian friends and others to meet the challenges of poverty and HIV AIDS that has afflicted the community and left a growing number of women widowed and infected with HIV.  Too many orphan children are heading households, and seniors/grandparents are left to care for grandchildren and dying children.

Rev Mary and family have an open-door policy in welcoming visitors, all are encouraged to go and see this incredible grass roots multi-faceted ministry that is saving and changing lives and a community in Western Kenya.

2013 Update

We were pleased to continue our support of Rev Mary's work at All Saints Parish by sending them money grams totaling $4,100 over the course of the 2013.

Best wishes to all for a great 2014!

My Sister,

I am sorry I have not acknowledged receiving the money. I did get the money on the 24th Dec and embarked on shopping.

One of the children fell sick on the 19th Dec and we were running up and down seeking for his treatment during the Doctors' strike. We thank God he is now well.

Thanks a lot dear for the Xmas gift. Words cannot thank you enough. We shall continue to pray for you. We thank you and Natasha for your generosity.

May the almighty abundantly reward you

Blessings during this festive season and a prosperous new year 2014

Love

Mary

Payment today $3,000.00 Canadian dollars. You should receive 234764.35 Ref #82770221. I did not raise any money this Christmas, it all came from myself and Natasha. We hope it is enough to help the children for Christmas and it is time to do your shopping.

Have a blessed Christmas to all and let 2014 find everyone with good health and happiness.

Love you all,

Nell

Hi Nell,

I hope you are doing fine.

We too are well, the children are doing well. Actually I am going to give you soon an annual report.

Dear, we sincerely thank you for the far you have enabled us to go. As I told you earlier, the children are anxiously waiting for the Christmas. I hope the Lord will enable you to make them feel good.

My greatest worry my dear sister, is that 22 of them are going to grade eight. From there they have to join high school, yet we do not have a church high school. I do not know whether we will be able  to pay their high school fees. But let us trust in the Lord. They will join high school in 2015 but as their mother I cannot stop thinking about them.

Let us keep praying.

Thanks dear for your support and enabling us to have water. This has really reduced sicknesses and all areas of life have been improved. We do a lot of farming, though sometimes the yields are not that good. We hope to have green house come next year, God being our helper.

May the Lord bless you

Mary

Hi Nell,

I sincerely want to thank you my sister for the continued support that you have always given us. If it were not for you dear, I do not know where we would be.

As the school grows and the needs increase dear, I realize that we badly need means of transport. I know there is nothing impossible with God. We also need to put up another classroom for grade eight. Dear, pray with us and it is my prayer that one day you will be able to visit and see the good work you have done here in Maseno.

God bless you and all you do.

Mary

Dear Nell,

Thanks a lot dear for all what you have done and has continued to do for the children. Since you think about children, you will always have people to help you in supporting children.

In fact this money we are going to buy the things we need. We always grow maize and beans and vegetables. With the coming elections we are really worried, so we are going to buy sugar, rice, cooking oil and all that the money can bring because we do not know what will happen after the election. Pliz continue praying for us dear so that all will be well.

May the almight bless you. Pass our regards to all who have a feeling for children

Love

Mary

Dear Mary,

Hope all is well with you and the children. I just sent a money gram $500 US,42482.28 Kes. Ref #95008799

A nice lady came by the office yesterday and dropped off $100 for the children. Two years ago I did some work for her and did not charge her because she was a single mother, but she wanted to do something and I said she could give a small donation for the children. She then gave me $100 to give to the children, and this was her first donation. I was very touched that she still thinks about the children.

God bless and keep you all in his care.

Nell

Dear Nell,

New Year greetings from Maseno!

I hope you have started the year well. We got the money and did the shopping for Chrismas. The children were very happy until now.

The schools are open and the mood is good. The parcel came though after Chrismas and you know what? Some of the girls who had not pricked their ears are crying that their ears be pricked immediately.

I am so sorry dear I was not able to write immediately- the cybers were closed  and the shopping consumed a lot of time. It has been difficult to access the internet too. We  really appreciate your love. My children have said a big thank you to you. May the almighty continue to bless you dear.

Even today, it has been so difficult to access internet. I hope this mail reaches you
Have a blessed 2012.
I will give you all the details when things  are working well

Love
Mary

Dear Nell,

Christmas greetings!

We want to thank you most sincerely for the support you have accorded us dear.

The amount was US $ 4020. This was Ksh 282, 200. The children are 112 and ten teachers this brought the total number of families to 122. We gave every family US $30 which came to KSh 2040. Half of it we bought a few items- sugar, wheat flour and cooking oil and half we gave as cash. This left me with US $ 490.
I was so conscious of the coming term and we need their food while they are in school. I used US $ 200- that is KSH. 13, 600 to buy rice, sugar and some grains (beans and green grams). I remained with US 290 of which I used US 100 for Christmas and US 190 I kept so that it will help to buy the necessary things we need when the schools open.

We shall need pens and pencils, chalks, books etc and we are so grateful dear that you have made things easy for us. We hope the coming year will be easy now that we open when we are well off.

The rains are so much dear and can you imagine the water is just pouring down. We have enough water and enough food. May the almighty bless you and all the peple who helped to feed the needy in Maseno- Kenya.

Love from all
Mary

Dear Nell,

How have you been my sister? I hope you are doing well. We too are doing well except that we have had a bit of sicknesses. There has been some malaria outbreaks   among the children and we have had to take many to the hospital. Thanks to God, they responded

Dear  Sisy,

Greetings from Kenya!

I am so happy to inform you that yesterday the children had a wonderful treat. They were so happy and blessed you. They said they will send you a thank you card. How is your mum? We continue praying for her.

We are so grateful dear. I hope that God will keep them healthy.
The time they were sick, it was terrible since we do not have a school van. We just used our small family car. Imagine sometimes it could be overloaded. It is my prayer that one day we shall have a medical cover for the children and a van to use.

We are grateful dear because the problem of water is now history. The children drink clean water and it is quite plenty. In fact the tanks are overflowing.

Please pass our love to all who help you to serve the Lord.

Blessings
Mary

Dear Nell,

Thanks a lot dear. Can you imagine I have just read your message now. I  am going to get the money now. We have just been too busy. The children are doing well and the number has really increased. We have been planning for proper farming because food has become so expensive. We want to do some irrigation. We have a good peace of land. Please, dear you have been so supportive and we can only pray for you.

May the almighty bless you greatly. In fact this money is going to help us buy pipes and tabs.

Dear, we are what we are because of you. May God bless all you do and all your family.

Love
Mary

Dear Nell,

Greetings from Kenya!

I received the money at the time when we really needed someone to intervene. May the almighty bless you my sister. You really rescued our situation.

We were able to buy many items for the children that we were missing.
We intend to take them for an outing on the 26th of this month. I hope I will be able to take them photos and send them to you.

Thanks dear
Mary
